In your answer you must refer to one or more religious traditions. [4 Marks]
Christianity
Christians Pacifists (e.g. Quakers) believe that war can never be ‘holy’.
They argue that violence is always a sin, and Christians should find other ways of challenging injustice in the world.
Islam
Some Muslims believe that under VERY specific circumstances a war can be ‘holy’.
They argue that Muslims have a duty to challenge injustice, and sometimes this is ONLY possible through the controlled use of force.
Buddhism
Buddhists normally refuse to participate in wars because they do not want to damage their chances at enlightenment.
War usually requires killing, which is an unskilful act.
Most Buddhists would argue that war is never ‘holy’.
