The Four Sights

Explain TWO ways in which the Four Sights the Buddha saw influence Buddhists today. [4 Marks]

One of the Four Sights was an old person.

This reminds Buddhists of anatta (no self).

You are not the same person from moment to moment.

Clinging to your old self will cause you to suffer.

Another of the Four Sights was a dead person.

This reminds Buddhists of anicca (impermanence).

Everything changes and eventually ends.

It is important to accept this and prepare for your next rebirth (or better yet, break out of the cycle of rebirth completely).
