Christianity

• Some Christians argue that nuclear weapons can NEVER be used in warfare.

• They point out that the Christian principle of jus in bello (‘law in war’) requires discrimination (i.e. not killing non-combatants).

• Since nuclear weapons cannot do this, they can never be used in warfare.

Islam

• Some Muslims also believe that nuclear weapons can NEVER be used in warfare.

• They point out that the rules of LESSER JIHAD forbid killing women and children in warfare.

• Since nuclear weapons kill everyone within the blast radius, it follows that they cannot be used in warfare.

Buddhism

• Some Buddhists agree that nuclear weapons can NEVER be used in warfare.

• They believe that all forms of killing are unskilful, and lead to an unfavourable rebirth.

• Since nuclear weapons kill large numbers of people and animals, they should never be used.
